People like to sue doctors these days. It stinks. And it sucks to have to wear scrubs or dress up everyday. But it's great being able to help people! Yes. People like to sue doctors these days. Comment on how can an 18-year-old know that s/he wants to be a doctor?! by mylifemypace http://www.mylifemypace.com/2007/03/16/how-can-an-18-year-old-know-that-she-wants-to-be-a-doctor/comment-page-1/#comment-3543 mylifemypace Sat, 12 Sep 2009 05:41:33 +0000 http://www.mylifemypace.com/2007/03/16/how-can-an-18-year-old-know-that-she-wants-to-be-a-doctor/#comment-3543 Keep doing what you're doing! You said you volunteered in a hospital and took an EMT course. What did you think of those experiences? Did you absolutely love being in the hospital and taking care of patients? Or was it just okay? Or did you hate it? I assume it was at least okay for you to be thinking of continuing to pursue this path, so keep doing things to explore your interest. With the changes that are coming to our health care system, I would advise that you absolutely LOVE being a physician to do it because the pay may not be as good and the hours crazier. You only need one year of math for med school, so just muddle through it! The other prereqs are hard as well, but if you really want to do it, then at least try. Maybe you'll decide it's not for you, but at least you explored it so you won't look back 20 years later and wonder if you made the right choice. Good luck! Keep doing what you’re doing! I always wanted to be a lawyer until my senior year. When one of my teacher introduced me to medicine. I was astounded and hooked. I did volunteer work at the hospital, took a EMT-Basic course in the local college and barely passed. The point is I'm just 18 and I'm freaking scared. I had no clue about all the work that is required to become a physician until a month ago. My cousin who is doing bio-medicine engineering put the fear of god in me. Mostly the fear came from the math-engineering classed then science. I suck at math. I suck so bad that I had to take remediation math. Science I love and can handle but math (shudder). So what advice would you give an ambitious and scared 18 year old who is so petrified that she can't even signed up for fall classes. How the hell I can be sure. You are so right. In last year of highschool, so I'm just jumping about looking for ideas. What's with the crazy patients suing their doctors? And wearing a doctor's uniform every day for the rest of your life - and i thought school uniform was irritating. Nice blog. In last year of highschool, so I’m just jumping about looking for ideas. I feel for you! What your MIL wants from you is impossible! And what a hypocrite! But sadly enough, it sounds exactly like something my own MIL would pull when her/if own daughter gets married. I really don't understand the whole being-married-but-still-keeping-each-other's-money-separate thing, but it seems to be commonly assumed of us by our in-laws... Wow. I feel for you! I sooooo feel for you! They say you can choose your partner but choosing your in-laws is a different story isn't it? I too have a MIL from hell. My situation is a little different in that my Husband has taken over the family business...but they are still in charge of the money! That means that they have total control on our spendings. But that's the least of my problems! My MIL wants the best of both worlds. best of the Asian culture in that she wants me to be a 'shit shoveller' House maid, chauffeur, doting, hard working DIL and a perfect wife to her son. She wants the best of the modern world too. That I should work and pay my way too. Because if I didn't, she'd have to dig her hand deeper into her pockets! Her own daughter> Welllllll! There's a completely different set of rules and expectations. She spends half her life phoning her daughter's in laws, making sure that her son in law completely provides for her. There was a scene a few months ago that her daughters husband hadn't paid her daughter back for some food shopping! God bless you! I sooooo feel for you!
