insomnia

I can’t sleep. As I lay here typing this post on my iPhone, my husband and both of my dogs are snoring happily away. I’ve always been somewhat of an insomniac, but it had been getting better…one hour to fall asleep instead of two or three. But now here I am two hours out and no amount of reading is making me sleepy. And, of course, the more I think about falling asleep, the harder it is. Perhaps I fool myself. I’ve been staying up until 2-3 am every night for the past six months. Maybe that’s why it has been easier for me to fall asleep…because it’s damn late when I finally hit the sack. Tonight we went to bed at 11. I guess all I have to do is wait for it to be 2 to fall asleep. It’s just that it’s no fun when everyone else is sleeping.

  1. consequences of living in a college townI like the little town that I live in.  Most people don't, but I do.  Sure, there's a few drawbacks, but for the most part, the benefits outweigh the costs and I like it better here than my more urban hometown.  The thing that annoys me the most is the fact that my little town is a college town, chock full of annoying college kids.  Summers are best because most of them are gone and I always try really hard to enjoy the quiet before they come back.  Which is quite soon now.  Besides being just downright obnoxious, college kids also don't have much driving experience.  So I'm always very careful about where I park my baby Prius since I want to keep it ding- and dent-free for as long as possible.  And I think you can guess the rest from here... My husband and I decided to go out to dinner at our favorite Japanese restaurant today.  We got lucky and found a parking space quickly.  But I noticed that we were parked crooked.  And then the car next to us started backing out and I got really scared that they would scrape us.  But I didn't say anything because my husband hates it when I criticize his driving.  We just stayed in the car while they backed out and sure enough, they scraped us.  As my husband sat there dumbfounded, I kept telling him, "They hit us.  They f****** hit us.  They hit us, dammit...why are you still...
  2. i have an early morning tomorrow……so we can have sex but no sleeping on my chest afterwards. Actually, can you sleep in the other room? You see, it’s nothing personal and I really would love to give up half of my bed to sleep next to your warm (preferably naked) body. It’s just that this study says that men who share their beds with someone don’t do so well cognitively the next day. And I really could use all the smarts I can get. Well, it’s kind of odd, actually, because sleeping together leads to both of us having disturbed sleep, but only I’m affected cognitively. I guess it’s a guy thing. So don’t worry, you’re not becoming dumber because you sleep with me, though sleeping with me does mess up your dream recall. And besides, we can still have sex. That won’t affect how I function cognitively in the morning and it’ll help my dream recall. And aren’t you always complaining about how I take up 90% of the bed and kick and punch you while I’m sleeping? This way, we’ll both win. I won’t be so dumb and you’ll get a good night’s sleep and better dream recall. Sound like a plan?...
