to wii or not to wii…

Silly of me to even be considering such a thing as wasting a good chunk of time standing/sitting outside my local Target/Wal-mart/Best Buy trying to get my hands on a Nintendo Wii.  That's why I maintain that I am absolutely no good at this studying thing.  I get distracted way too easily.  And I'm not […]

So let's pretend that my car didn't get vandalized today subsequently leading me to be so angry that I couldn't study at all and just get on with it.  Yes.  Let's.  So my song choice for this week is: Something Corporate - Break Myself.  The lyrics should be pretty self-explanatory…pushing yourself to the limits so […]

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Carnival of GRADual Progress, which I, a carnival-hosting newbie, am honored to be hosting today.  Let’s hope it all goes off without a hitch.
Since I’m in the middle of studying for my dreaded qualifying exam and should have been studying instead of reading all of these great posts, […]

What a meh episode.  Oh well.  Reminded me of my post on how Hollywood portrays coma patients all wrong compared to real life.  Yes, Coma Guy was in a vegetative state for 10 years and woke up and just got right out of bed and started driving no less.  Right.
FOREMAN: L-Dopa?!CAMERON: You’re not waking […]

As promised, here goes my post on how House is now pushing my much more-relaxed-compared-to-Grey’s-Anatomy limits. Although I’ve taken issue with some of the things that are portrayed on the show before, I’ve always liked House and even secretly kind of admired him. Not for his Vicodin addiction or his outright rude treatment […]

» The 10 dirtiest jobs in science.  Hey, they forgot to include being your major professor’s bitch.  Okay, I guess that isn’t quite as literally dirty as those on the list, but it sure feels like it is. # 0

» Yum!  Now that’s something I can live with: eating curry to stave off cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.  Researchers in Singapore found that people (aged 60-93) who ate curry even only occasionally scored higher on the Mini Mental Status Exam (MMSE) than those who never ate curry.  The curry spice, turmeric, contains curcumin, which has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  And the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease in the elderly in India is fourfold less than that in the United States. # 0

» There’s a great article today about how the MIT Dean of Admissions wants to reduce admissions anxiety in teenagers.  How about parents getting off of their kids’ backs?  That would help.  But I do admire her for trying to create a friendlier system that might just ease the pressure enough to not give parents such reason to push their kids so hard.  Too bad it probably won’t happen any time soon.  And go ahead and try to tell Asian parents to stop pushing their kids to the point of insanity.  I dare you. # 0
